A professional practice from a perspective of social justice

Laadi alla (pdf)

France Picard, Michel Turcotte, Simon Viviers, Patricia Dionne

The article discusses the role of social justice in career guidance and introduces the capability approach, as a way to address inequalities. It highlights how formal rights, like access to education, don’t always result in real freedoms for individuals. The capability approach emphasizes helping people convert resources into real opportunities, enabling them to make meaningful choices in education and the labour market. The article also explores how guidance professionals can play a key role in either expanding or limiting these opportunities by influencing decision-making and ensuring fair access to guidance resources.

This paper is a translation from French to English of a blog published in the OrientAction of Ceric in June 2020: https://orientaction.ceric.ca/2020/06/03/une-pratique-professionnelle-sous-langle-de-la-justice-sociale1/
