Nordplus
program

The Nordic Council of Ministers’ Nordplus education program aims to promote and strengthen cooperation between the Nordic and Baltic countries in general, higher and adult education. 

The program supports learning mobility, projects, and networks and is targeted at institutions and organizations involved in education and lifelong learning. 

The Nordplus program consists of several sub-programs.

Nordplus Junior Program

You can apply for support from the Nordplus Junior Program to organize learning mobilities, carry out development projects, create new cooperation networks or expand existing networks. 

The goals of the program are:

  • to develop and strengthen cooperation between schools; 
  • to improve the quality of education; 
  • to support educational innovation and creativity; 
  • to disseminate good practice; 
  • to support the principles of inclusive education; 
  • to introduce the Nordic and Baltic languages and culture; 
  • to encourage cooperation between educational institutions and the world of work. 

Participating institutions: pre-school institutions, basic schools and upper secondary schools, vocational education institutions, state-recognized sports and music schools. Other institutions and organizations operating in the general education landscape can participate as a partner. 

Target group: students, teachers, and other educators. 

What can be done? 

Learning mobility can take place between at least two participating countries and is of the following types: 

  • Preparatory mission, i.e., a meeting with partners to prepare applications, lasting up to five days, including travel time. It is possible to apply for support for up to two people from one educational institution (the costs of the recipient are not covered). 
  • Student group exchanges lasting 1 to 3 weeks and up to 30 students from each partner school can participate, with exchanges taking place within 1 to 3 years. 
  • Individual academic mobility of students, the duration of which is from one week to one year. 
  • Student mobility for work experience lasting from one week to one year. Student mobility must take place within 1 – 3 years (application is submitted by the school). 
  • Teacher exchanges/work shadowing/study visits, lasting from one week to one year. 

Development projects: cooperation between schools/institutions in at least three countries on a topic of common interest lasting up to three years. Self-financing must be 25%. 

Networks: networking, developing cooperation of an existing network, or expanding a network between schools/institutions of at least three countries for up to three years. Self-financing must be 25%.

Nordplus Higher Education Program

The program is open to support for student and teacher mobility, creation and development of cooperation networks, and other project activities. 

The goals of the program are: 

  • to set up networks between higher education institutions in the participating countries in order to exchange and disseminate experience and create innovative solutions; 
  • to facilitate cooperation between higher education institutions and other institutions related to higher education; 
  • to encourage cooperation between higher education institutions and the labor market; 
  • to ensure a high level of both students and lecturers. 

What can be done?

Learning mobility can take place between at least two participating countries and is of the following types: 

  • student mobility (3 – 12 months), 
  • short-term student mobility (1-2 months), 
  • express mobility (less than 1 month), 
  • lecturer mobility. 

Cooperation projects take place between at least three partners from three different program countries and are of the following types: 

  • intensive courses, 
  • joint curricula, 
  • higher education development projects. 

Networking projects involve at least three partners from three program countries and involve the creation and development of networks, including: 

  • administrative meetings for creation and development of networks; 
  • meetings to plan student mobility, 
  • courses or 
  • involvement of new partners. 

The application can be submitted in Danish, Norwegian, Swedish, or English. All parties must submit a Letter of Intent.

Nordplus Adult Program (Nordplus Adult)

The goals of the program are: 

  • to support Nordic-Baltic cooperation in adult education; 
  • to improve the quality of adult education; 
  • to implement good and innovative ideas; 
  • to develop the field of adult education as a whole. 

Participating institutions: institutions active in the field of adult education, such as training centers (folk high schools, language schools), educational institutions (adult upper secondary schools, adult education departments of higher education and vocational training institutions), cultural institutions (museums, libraries, theaters), prisons, local governments, non-profit organizations, citizens’ associations, associations, societies, etc.  

Target group: adult educators; heads and staff of adult education institutions (training managers, methodologists, educational program coordinators); adult learners studying at one of the above institutions. 

What can be done? 

At least two different institutions from two different countries can participate in study mobility projects, i.e., study visits and missions (duration up to one year), and its types are: 

  • preparatory mission, i.e., meeting with partners to prepare project applications; 
  • exchanges of staff in the field of adult education, i.e., the participation of adult educators or staff involved in the organization and development of adult education on a course in or study visit to another institution; 
  • learners exchange, i.e., the learning mobility or internship of adult learners. 

Cooperation projects involve at least three different institutions from three different countries and address a specific topic of interest to all parties in adult education, as well as include a meeting with partners to plan further activities (projects can last 1 to 3 years). The types of cooperation projects are: 

  • a thematic network, i.e., a project of at least three institutions aimed at strengthening working links in order to set up a network to address issues of common interest; 
  • a development project with the aim of cooperating to develop (or adapt) training courses, methodologies, study materials, etc.; 
  • a research project with the aim to study, analyze, map existing knowledge and experience in adult education and to inform the general public about the results.

Nordplus Horizontal Program

In the framework of the program, support for multidisciplinary projects and networking can be applied for. 

The Nordplus Horizontal Program supports cooperation between the field of education and different sectors and is designed to address innovative, specific, broader, or complex topics. 

The goals of the program are: 

  • to support cross-cutting projects and networking; 
  • to support innovative projects addressing new, specific, broader, or more complex topics; 
  • to support projects and networks which improve the quality of lifelong learning in the participating countries and which offer innovative solutions in this field. 

The program supports projects and networks in different fields and must involve at least two institutions from different levels of education. Activities may be further developments or extensions of previous networks or projects supported by the Nordplus program, covering different areas and analyzing, comparing, disseminating, and making wider use of the results of these projects and networks. 

What can be done? 

  • workshops; 
  • seminars for the exchange of experiences; 
  • conferences; 
  • research and analysis; 
  • statistical projects; 
  • projects using the results of educational research; 
  • creation of innovative materials on language learning, language teaching, and translation or similar materials in other fields; 
  • creation of new course modules based on innovative learning platforms; 
  • publication, dissemination, and exchange of results and good practice.

Nordplus Nordic Languages

The aim of the Nordplus Nordic Languages is to support the learning of Danish, Norwegian and Swedish at all levels of education. 

The program supports projects and networks involving at least three countries and lasting up to three years. 

Participating institutions: pre-school child care institutions, general education schools, higher education institutions, research centers, language schools, and other organizations, companies, cultural institutes, etc., involved in language learning. 

What can be done? 

  • To develop methodologies and teaching materials 
  • to develop curricula related to the Nordic languages; 
  • to organize information work for the general population; 
  • to carry out research; 
  • to organize conferences, seminars, festivals.
